Fleur East says her friend’s suicide made her re-evaluate her life.
The 32-year-old singer was left devastated after a close pal took their own life and she admitted it made her take stock of her own situation.
She told The Sun newspaper: "They put a post out on social media before taking their own life.
"The person said they were pretending to be something they weren’t and that they had lost their way. It really brought things into perspective."
Fleur – who found fame on ‘The X Factor’ in 2014 – also admitted getting dumped by Simon Cowell’s Syco record label in 2017 was a huge shock but said it helped her to get back on track.
She explained: "I remembered the fire and hunger I have for music. I realised I’d got complacent because I thought, ‘I’ve made it now, and I can just enjoy it’.
"But actually that’s when it got even harder. I had to re-evaluate. Now I’ve almost hit the reset button and am starting again.
"It gave me a good reality check and kept my feet on the ground, which is really important to me.
"You’ve always got to remember why you’re doing it because if you lose that focus and motivation you get swept up in a lot of things.
"I had to remind myself about my love for music and making that the focus.
"I had so many amazing opportunities and I just really want to make the most of them now."
