First Dates’ Fred Sirieix’s ‘detective’ plan

First Dates’ Fred Sirieix likes to pretend he’s a "detective" when it comes to buying gifts for Valentine’s Day (14.02.16).

The bearded love guru has compiled his own list of top tips to help the annual day of love run smoothly for smitten couples.

He told BANG Showbiz: "Play detective! Part of the fun in finding the perfect present is picking up on your partner’s hints – big or small. If they mention something they want to see or do, or simply something that brings them a little moment of joy – you should take note."

And, regardless of how much of an ice-breaker they can be, the legendary maitre d’ of TV has warned those less experience in love to stay away from those "joke" gifts.

He explained: "Stay away from the joke gifts. Funny as they may seem, they communicate something very real to your partner – ‘I am not taking this (or you) seriously.’ Of course, love and laughter go hand in hand. But a thoughtful present is how you show you’ve been paying attention to your loved one – to what they want and what they enjoy."

In fact, Fred thinks some of the best gifts are small and cheap because they ooze the most romance.

He added: "Sharing a coffee can be a thousand times more romantic than all the Champagne and truffles in the world. Be creative. Be thoughtful. And be yourself."
