Fern Britton quit ‘This Morning’ because she was "treated pretty poorly".
The 62-year-old TV presenter walked away from her role on the ITV show back in 2009, and Fern has now revealed why she decided to quit, admitting "something happened" on the day she decided to resign.
Fern told RTE Radio 1: "I began not to enjoy it so much and the morning I resigned, I didn’t know I was going to resign.
"Something happened and I thought, ‘That’s it really’ and I walked away and resigned. I was treated pretty poorly, actually. And after a while I just thought, ‘Sod it.’"
At the time of her departure, it was speculated that Fern quit because Phillip Schofield, her co-star, was being paid more than her.
But she’s now insisted that wasn’t the reason she decided to walk away from the show.
She said: "There was also a persistent rumour that I left because Phillip was being paid more than me. And I always say to people, ‘Why would I leave a show to go to nothing if I was worried about money?’"
Fern – who was replaced by Holly Willoughby – previously rubbished suggestions she was feuding with Phillip.
The presenter also revealed she was being paid "plenty" by ITV at the time of her exit.
She shared: "I didn’t know what Phillip was earning.
"But I knew that I was earning plenty for me and you have to know what is enough for yourself. I’m old fashioned enough not to question what other people are earning. I was very well looked after."
