Fergie says getting pregnant helped to "reset" her.
The ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’ singer decided to step away from the spotlight for the first few years of her son Axl’s life and refused to "sacrifice time with her child" despite the countless offers from studios wanting her to record.
She said: "I’m not going to sacrifice time with my child. That’s just not going to happen. They can keep banging on my door [to release an album], but I’m like, ‘I’m with Axl. I’m off the grid! Bye!’
"Getting pregnant reset me. I just got on my game. People wanted me to release it and I was like, ‘It’s good, but I want it to be great.’ I’ve never taken this much responsibility [for my music]. I’m executive-producing [the album] and I kept wanting to make it better and better. I wanted to strive for greatness."
And the 42-year-old singer admits it is a totally different process with the studio now she has a child.
She added to Entertainment Weekly: "It’s totally different, even the hours in the studio are different. Everything has to be so masterfully scheduled that it’s crazy."
Meanwhile, Fergie recently announced she had split from her estranged husband Josh Duhamel a few months ago and admitted it felt "weird" pretending they were still together before they announced their news.
She said: "Honestly, it was just getting a little weird for us with all the romantic questions. We’re great friends, we love each other so much, and it just got to the point where it was getting a little weird, there’s no perfect time so we just decided to do it … It was just getting a little weird to laugh through the first date questions."
