Ewan McGregor fears over getting back into Trainspotting character

Ewan McGregor was apprehensive about returning to his ‘Trainspotting’ character in case he couldn’t get back into the role.
The 45-year-old actor has been reunited with his former castmates – Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle, Ewen Bremner and Kelly McDonald – for the sequel, ‘T2: Trainspotting’, to the cult classic 1996 British film about heroin addicts living in Edinburgh based on Irvine Welsh’s 1993 book.
In the new movie, McGregor reprises his role as reformed junkie Mark Renton who returns to Scotland 20 Years after the evens of the first movie to make amends with his friends Spud (Bremner) and Sick Boy (Miller) but he was very nervous about being able to do the character justice again.
In an interview with Virgin Radio, he said: "I was scared in case I couldn’t find him again, 20 years later. I thought, ‘What if I can’t find him? What if he’s not there? But I am Renton and Renton’s me, so he was there when I looked for him."
McGregor has reunited with his long-term collaborator Danny Boyle, who is directing the film, and has enjoyed returning to his native Scotland for the shoot.
And the ‘A Life Less Ordinary’ star is also working on a top secret new project which will be made in the country.
He teased: "All I’ve got at the moment is the idea that it should be contemporary, with young people, teenagers or 20 year olds."
But for that project, he plans to work behind the scenes rather than being in front of the camera.
He confirmed: "I won’t be in it."
Explaining why, he added: "I’d like to find a story that I work on with a writer. So find an original story and be part of it right from the start. I’m not good enough writer to do it myself, but I’d like to work with a writer. And maybe it should be in Scotland and be for very little money, and take five weeks to shoot. That’s like ‘Trainspotting’!"
