Esther Rantzen considering using Tinder

Esther Rantzen is considering using online dating to find love.

The ‘That’s Life!’ presenter has admitted to being lonely following the death of her husband and confessed she was tempted to give the popular mobile dating app Tinder a try.

She told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I’ve heard of Tinder, it sounds fabulous. I shall certainly think about that."

The 74-year-old’s husband – broadcaster Desmond Wilcox – passed away in 2000, and while the TV veteran has said she is open to heading online to meet somebody new, she dismissed social networking sites for being too dull.

She said: "I’m not sure I like Facebook, I think there are various Esther Rantzens on there. I think that there are impersonators. I tried Twitter but got a bit bored."

Meanwhile, the journalist and presenter – who previously set up ChildLine – has now launched The Silver Line; a free 24-hour service which pensioners can call for a chat when they are feeling lonely, following her own feelings of isolation after the passing of her husband.

She confessed: "About three years ago I moved from a house to a flat, living alone for the first time, and I realised that coming home to a dark flat with no one to say, ‘How was your day?’ I didn’t enjoy."

Now that the service has launched, Esther is urging pensioners to pick up the phone to ensure mental well being amongst the elderly.

She added: "We’re reaching out to people who nobody wants to listen to."
