Emmerdale’s Alexander Lincoln finds Jamie Tate ‘frustrating’

Alexander Lincoln admitted he sometimes finds his ‘Emmerdale’ character "frustrating".

The actor’s alter ego Jamie Tate is currently embroiled in a hit and run story and wracked with guilt after he left Moira Dingle (Natalie J. Robb) injured in the road when he accidentally knocked her down, and Andrea Tate (Anna Nightingale) urged him to stay quiet.

Opening up on viewers getting annoyed by his indecision about what to do, he told ITV’s ‘Lorraine’: "I’ve been very fortunate with Jamie in that I’ve got to show so many different aspects to him, so many different dimensions.

"But yeah, he is frustrating, because he sort of is just going along with the flow – that’s one of the things about Jamie, he doesn’t really take action that well, and he’s sort of manipulated, and yeah it can be quite frustrating."

Meanwhile, Alexander revealed he had been worried about getting told off by ‘Emmerdale’ bosses after he shaved his hair during the coronavirus lockdown.

Thankfully his locks grew back in time for the soap’s return to filming, and they avoided any potential continuity issues.

He added: "Me and my housemate thought it was the end of the world, and with that we sort of wanted to get our ‘Mad Max’ look on.

"So we shaved our heads, and I grew a little goatee. Thankfully it’s all come back, because I was a little bit scared that I was going to get a slap on the wrist."

Alexander’s career could have been very different, after his co-star Max Parker – who plays Luke Posner on the show – revealed he initially tried out for the part of Jamie.

He previously said: "Originally I had auditioned to play Jamie Tate, which was funny. At the time they did so many rounds – more than usual, I think – and they just couldn’t find anybody.

"In the screen test, that was the first time I saw Alex Lincoln who plays Jamie and I was like: ‘He’s not been in any of the auditions!’

"Pretty much when they told him that he’d got that, they said: ‘We would like you to play Luke. We’ve been writing this character, it would be really good for you’. But there was a gap before I started."
