Elijah Wood cast in BBC America’s Dirk Gently

Elijah Wood has been cast in BBC America’s ‘Dirk Gently’.
The 35-year-old actor has landed the co-leading role of Todd, the reluctant assistant of detective Dirk, in the forthcoming eight-part drama thriller based on the books of the same name by novelist Douglas Adams.
The series will follow the pair’s journey as they unfold one big mystery, with each episode being left on a cliffhanger as they get closer to the hidden truth, according to Deadline.
The remake comes four years after BBC4 attempted an adaptation of ‘Dirk Gently’, which starred Stephen Mangan.
The four-part series was first aired in 2010 and most recently in 2012.
The latest addition to the BBC America channel follows the likes of ‘Doctor Who’, ‘Orphan Black’ and ‘Luther’, which have all been scripted for the cable network.
Elijah – who is most famous for portraying Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson’s epic film trilogy ‘The Lord of the Rings’ – has a wealth of TV experience having starred in ‘Wilfred’, a popular American comedy show, as well as the animated series ‘American Dad!’ and sitcom ‘Frasier’.
‘Dirk Gently’ is expected to hit screens later this year.
