Ed Sheeran designs new Blue Peter badge

Ed Sheeran has designed a new ‘Blue Peter’ badge.
The 28-year-old singer – who received a Gold badge, the show’s highest accolade, last year – was asked to come up with a new design to mark BBC Music Day, and his effort features the programme’s iconic ship alongside piano keys, a microphone and music notes on a multi-coloured background.
He said: "I’ve always loved ‘Blue Peter’ and even got the chance to present the show a while back, so I’m made up that I got to design their first ever badge for BBC Music Day.
"Music was really important to me growing up and I hope this badge will inspire more kids to get into it."
Ed’s badge will be officially launched on a special BBC Music Day show on CBBC on Thursday (26.09.19), on which Blue Peter Gold badge holder and Beatles legend Sir Paul McCartney will speak about his musical memories.
He will explain how his songwriting skills have improved, admitting his first tunes were "nice, but very basic".
Radio 1’s Maya Jama will also appear on the programme to share her sounds of the summer, and presenter Lindsey Russell will take on the challenge of conducting the BBC’s Philharmonic Orchestra.
To apply for one of the new badges, the show’s young supporters need to tell ‘Blue Peter’ how much they enjoy making music, and ask a parent, grandparent, or teacher about their musical memories to find out how music has inspired them.
BBC Music Day is now in its fifth year and celebrates how music can change lives for the better.
