‘EastEnders’ star Lorraine Stanley has offered her services as a "cleaner" whilst filming on the BBC One soap is shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Bosses took the decision on Wednesday (18.03.20) to halt production on the programme to ensure the health and safety of the cast and crew as the deadly respiratory illness – also known as COVID-19 – continues to spread across the UK and claim lives.
Following the end of shooting, Lorraine took to Twitter to let people know that she is available for cleaning work whilst she is not needed to play Walford favourite Karen Taylor, who has worked as a cleaner for Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) at his restaurant.
Retweeting the shut down statement from the official BBC ‘EastEnders’ Twitter account, she wrote: "Anyone need a cleaner?"
Lorraine also then offered her services as a singer by retweeting an earlier post from the official account which showed her singing the ‘Neighbours’ theme song to wish the Channel 5 soap a happy 35th anniversary.
She wrote: "Or a singer? Good to go at Clubs, pubs, weddings, funerals, bar mitzvahs? Audiences of less than 5 preferably."
As well as stopping production on ‘EastEnders’, the BBC also took the decision to halt filming on on all their continuous dramas, ‘Holby City’, ‘Casualty’, ‘Doctors’, ‘River City’ and ‘Pobol y Cwm’ due to the coronavirus outbreak.
A BBC spokeswoman said: "In light of the spread of COVID-19, after much consideration, it has been decided that filming on all BBC Studios continuing dramas will be postponed until further notice. The decision was made after the latest government update.
"We will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the World Health Organisation and public health organisations."
It is not yet known how long the programmes will remain on air due to the already recorded instalments.
BBC One soap ‘EastEnders’ has been reduced from four episodes per week to two so it can remain on screens whilst the break in the production takes place.
