EastEnders leads soap nominees for TV Choice Awards

‘EastEnders’ leads the list of soap nominees for this year’s TV Choice Awards.

The BBC One show has a nod in the Best Soap category, as well as two apiece for the Best Soap Actor and Best Soap Actress prizes, with Max Bowden (Ben Mitchell) delighted to be on the shortlist for the former alongside his co-star Danny Dyer (Mick Carter).

He wrote on Twitter: "Buzzing to say I’ve been shortlisted for Best Soap Actor at the @TVChoice awards! Thanks everyone for your votes."

The ‘EastEnders’ pair will face off against ‘Coronation Street’ actor Jack P. Shepherd (David Platt) and Emmerdale’s Jeff Hordley (Cain Dingle).

Albert Square is also well represented in the Best Soap Actress category with Kellie Bright (Linda Carter) and Shona McGarty (Whitney Dean), and they are up against ‘Coronation Street’ pair Dolly-Rose Campbell (Gemma Winter) and Shelley King (Yasmeen Nazir).

Shona wrote on Twitter: "Wow! I’m am so excited to say I’ve been shortlisted for Best Actress at the #tvchoiceawards.

"Thank you to everyone who voted. Honestly means so so much! I’d really appreciate a little vote again. Please x x Thank you so much!! (sic)"

Shelley – who is currently in the middle of a hard-hitting coercive control storyline – shared: "So excited and proud of Team Corrie."

EastEnders’ TV Choice Awards recognition comes just a month after the programme was snubbed for the Soap and Continuing Drama prize at this year’s BAFTA TV Awards.

The show won the accolade at last year’s ceremony, but the programme hasn’t even been nominated this time around, with medical dramas ‘Holby City’ and ‘Casualty’, and ITV soaps ‘Emmerdale’ and ‘Coronation Street’ all receiving nods instead.
