Dwayne Johnson’s daughter Simone has been named 2018 Golden Globe Ambassador.
The 16-year-old star will be tasked with escorting Golden Globe Awards winners on and off stage and carrying statuettes, and admitted she is delighted to have been recognised with the prize, which was previously known as Miss or Mister Golden Globe, by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).
She said in a statement: "I’ve been lucky enough to grow up in a household with strong role models and feel so honoured to represent the HFPA for its 75th Anniversary.
"As the newly minted Golden Globe Ambassador, I hope to serve as a role model to young people everywhere and empower them to speak out on issues they are passionate about."
Simone will team up with GlobalGirl, which is supported by the HFPA and helps young female journalists from disadvantaged backgrounds achieve their career dreams.
Meher Tatna, HFPA president, confirmed the gong’s name change and admitted she couldn’t think of "a better representative" than Simone to be awarded the title.
Speaking at an event in Catch, West Hollywood, to announce Simone as the new ambassador, she said: "As we look forward to the 75th anniversary of the Golden Globe Awards, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association members decided to expand this role to embody the HFPA’s philanthropic efforts year-round.
"The honouree will now be referred to as the Golden Globe Ambassador and we could not think of a better representative than Simone to carry on this tradition, as her values closely reflect everything the HFPA stands for."
Simone will follow in the footsteps of other stars’ kids, including Sylvester Stallone’s daughters, Sophia, 21, Sistine, 19, and Scarlet Stallone, 15, who were last year’s honourees, as well as Dakota Johnson, and her mother Melanie Griffith, whose mum is ‘The Birds’ actress Tippi Hedren.
The 75th Golden Globe Awards will take place on January 7 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
