Duchess of York discusses grandson August for the first time: ‘He thinks I’m funny’

The Duchess of York’s new grandson finds her “funny”.

Sarah, 61, became a grandmother for the first time in February when her daughter, Princess Eugenie, welcomed a son named August with her husband Jack Brooksbank.

And whilst speaking about the new arrival publicly for the first time, the duchess revealed August finds her “dancing” endlessly amusing.

She said: “August already thinks I’m funny because I’m dancing.”

Sarah – who is the ex-wife of the Duke of York – was speaking during a virtual event for Waterstones bookstore alongside author Beatrice Blue on Monday (18.05.21), where she also said she would love to read the writer’s new book, ‘Once Upon a Mermaid’s Tail’, to August.

Of the book – which tells the story of a mermaid named Oceanne – she explained: “Being a grandmother, I can bring mermaid Oceanne to my grandson.”

The royal is also a step-grandmother to Christopher Woolf, who is the five-year-old son of Princess Beatrice’s husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

And Sarah said the youngster – who is affectionately known as “Woolfie” – also finds her “very funny”.

The duchess is a renowned author of children’s books herself, having made her name with her ‘Budgie The Little Helicopter’ series, and recently made her first foray into the world of adult fiction.

It was reported Sarah has penned a novel called ‘Her Heart For A Compass’, which is co-written with prolific historical romance author Marguerite Kaye, and will be published by Mills & Boon.

The story is said to be inspired by the life of Sarah’s great-great-aunt, Lady Margaret Montagu Douglas Scott.
