Britain’s Duchess Catherine gave Queen Elizabeth a jar of homemade chutney for Christmas five years ago.
The 34-year-old royal – the wife of the monarch’s grandson Prince William – has admitted she was stressing over what to give her majesty when she celebrated her first Christmas with the family at Sandringham, Norfolk, in 2011, so decided to make her something extra special for the occasion.
Speaking in an interview for the new documentary ‘Our Queen At Ninety’, which coincides with the monarch’s 90th birthday next month, the brunette beauty said: "I was worried what to give the Queen as her Christmas present. I was thinking, ‘Gosh, what should I give her? And I thought back to what would I give my own grandparents.
"And I thought, ‘I’ll make her something’, which could have gone horribly wrong. But I decided to make my granny’s recipe of chutney."
But the Duchess – who has two children George, two, and Charlotte, 10 months, with her husband William – had nothing to worry about as she found the jar of chutney sitting on the Queen’s lavish dining room table the next day.
She added: "I was slightly worried about it, but I noticed the next day that it was on the table."
‘Our Queen at Ninety’ will hit screens on March 27.
