Hours before the ceremony officially kicked off at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Drake was named a winner in 10 categories. Other stars, who were announced as winners before the ceremony included Beyoncé with five awards, Twenty One Pilots with four and The Chainsmokers, who won three.
Both Drake and The Chainsmokers have been nominated for 22 awards so could add to their tally at the awards show on Sunday night.
Some of Drake’s early awards included Top Billboard 200 artist, Top Hot 100 artist, Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Album for ‘Views’ and Top R&B Song for ‘One Dance’.
Both Drake and The Chainsmokers are set to perform at the ceremony, along with Sam Hunt, Florida Georgia Line, John Legend, Halsey, Camila Cabello and Julia Michaels.
And Celine Dion has also been confirmed as a performer at the annual awards bash, which will be hosted by Ludacris and Vanessa Hudgens.
The announcement that Celine would perform came shortly after Celine revealed she relies on her 16-year-old son for career advice.
The ‘My Heart Will Go On’ hitmaker admitted that her eldest son, Rene-Charles, serves as an adviser for her next album, frequently providing Celine with feedback on her work.
She shared: "I have my 16-year-old who loves music and when I make him listen to a demo he says, ‘This is a great song’.
"But he says: ‘If you can’t sing it this way mum, you shouldn’t do this, but if you can sing it this way, you should release that song.’"
Celine said Rene-Charles performs a crucial role in her creative process.
She explained: "My son is very involved in helping me discover new music."
