Dr Dre overtakes Jay Z on rich list

Dr Dre has overtaken Jay Z on Forbes’ list of the richest hip hop artists.

The magazine has revealed the rapper’s Beats by Dre headphones company made $1.2 billion last year, earning him $200 million, meaning his total assets were $550 million.

Jay Z was close behind after his $475 million jumped to $520 million in the past 12 months, due to his $150 million partnership with Live Nation, his Budweiser Made In America Tour and his Roc Nation Sports agency.

Puff Daddy was crowned number one once again with an estimated worth of $700 million, almost double the amount last year of $450 million, which was made up of profits from a number of non-musical ventures such as Revolt TV.

Birdman, who founded Cash Money Records, came in at fourth place, with assets of $160 million, while rapper 50 Cent was fifth with $140 million, following his $100 million haul from the sale of VitaminWater in 2007.

Rapper Kanye West didn’t make the list as he earns just $20 million, according to the magazine, while fiancee Kim Kardashian earns just half of that amount.
