Doug Potts returns to Emmerdale

Emmerdale’s Doug Potts is to return.

Actor Duncan Preston is to reprise his role more than three years after he last appeared on the ITV soap as Doug returns to the Yorkshire Dales for the wedding of his daughter Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy).

Viewers will be left wondering if Doug is really back to support his daughter – who is to marry Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) – or if he has an ulterior motive.

Duncan commented: "It is lovely to be back in Yorkshire as part of the ‘Emmerdale’ family. It feels like I have come home and I’m really excited about what is ahead for Doug".

Doug’s return could also see him rekindle his romance with Diane Sugden (Elizabeth Estensen), whom he tried to woo before leaving the Dales to reunite with his estranged wife in 2011.

Duncan made his first appearance on ‘Emmerdale’ in 2007 but took a break in 2010 to pursue theatre work. His temporary departure became a permanent one, however, as executive producer Steve November revealed a return for Doug wasn’t definite.

The door was left open for Duncan to return in future and he is expected to be back as a regular character from September.
