Doctor Who’s Sacha Dhawan wants longer stint as The Master

Sacha Dhawan says a longer ‘Doctor Who’ stint as the Master would be a "bonus".
The 35-year-old actor looks poised for a showdown with Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor in the Series 12 finale on Sunday (01.03.20), and he would be delighted to return for another run as the iconic villain.
He told Digital Spy: "Yeah, I’d love to [return]. I’m just waiting to be asked, to be honest. I think, for me, I wasn’t like, ‘Oh, I hope this is a regular thing!’ I think the challenge for me was doing the role justice. The response has been really good, and really overwhelming. Hopefully, it’ll still continue like that.
"So I’m just happy that the fans like it. And in all honesty, that’s enough for me. If they ask me to come back, it’s an added bonus."
Sacha’s performances as the evil Time Lord have been praised by viewers, but he admitted he was nervous about living up to previous incarnations of the character.
He explained: "Your initial thinking is, ‘Maybe I’m not good enough.’ But what ‘Doctor Who’ has taught me as well is to really believe yourself, and to trust your ability.
"I think that once I tapped into that with the support of Chris Chibnall, the creator and writer, and Matt Strevens, the producer. They really got me to produce some of my best work.
"And I think The Master only comes to life when you kind of lose all your inhibitions, and you’re not afraid to take risks and be really bold. And by doing that, it felt like the character became more scary and more unpredictable."
Jodie Whittaker has already confirmed she’ll be back as the Doctor for the 13th series – which is set to air in 2021 – and joked she was "clinging on tight" to the titular role.
She previously said: "I’m doing another season. That might be a massive exclusive that I’m not supposed to say, but it’s unhelpful for me to say [I don’t know] because it would be a massive lie!
"I absolutely adore it. At some point, these shoes are going to be handed on, but it’s not yet. I’m clinging on tight!"
