Doctor Foster’s second series will pick up the original story two years on.
Jodie Comer, who plays Kate Parks in the show, has revealed the programme will enable viewers to find out more about her character, who had an affair with Gemma Foster’s (Suranne Jones) husband Simon Foster (Bertie Carvel) in the first five-episode run.
She told Digital Spy: "People have changed, time has passed – we pick up the series two years later.
"On a personal level, what’s exciting for me is people will actually get to know Kate as a person. She is just known as ‘the other woman’ – so I think it’s quite cool to come back and hopefully maybe give people a different perspective."
The dramatic first series culminated in a tense final episode in which Gemma embarrassed Kate about her affair in front of her family and Simon at a dinner party, and Jodie admitted she loved the crescendo in the first four episodes.
She added: "The amazing thing about series one was the build-up.
"It was such a build-up to that final episode, but that’s happened now and the story’s moved on."
Suranne has previously admitted she was initially opposed to the idea of another series of ‘Doctor Foster’ following its success last year before signing up to reprise her role as Gemma.
She said: "I’ve read episode one and I’m due two and three. At first I didn’t know whether there should be a series two but then I wanted to look at the aftermath of a divorce as I don’t think there’s been any of that on TV…"
