An official ‘Derry Girls’ book is set to be published later this year.
The upcoming release is written from the viewpoint of Erin Quinn, the teenage character played by Saoirse-Monica Jackson in the Channel 4 series, and will provide Erin’s reflections on the show’s major storylines.
The book, titled ‘Erin’s Diary’, will also unveil brand new stories and never-before-revealed details about characters in the series.
‘Derry Girls’ creator Lisa McGee is "thrilled" to be launching the book.
She told Stylist magazine: "’Erin’s Diary’ was such a joy to write. I loved spending time with these characters again.
"The book will reveal some new information about old events as well as some brand new antics from Erin and the gang – hopefully it will keep fans laughing until series three hits the screen."
In the series, Erin and her friends try to navigate the highs and lows of being teenagers in Northern Ireland in the 1990s.
The acclaimed sitcom premiered in 2018 and was commissioned for a third series earlier this year, having become one of Channel 4’s most successful comedies of recent years.
A synopsis for the book reads: "Erin has troubles of her own, like the fact that the boy she’s in love with (actually in LOVE with) doesn’t know she exists. Or that her Ma and Aunt Sarah make her include her weirdo cousin Orla in everything she does. Or that head teacher Sister Michael refuses to acknowledge Erin as a literary genius. Not to mention the fact that her second best friend has ALMOST had sex, whereas Erin’s never even kissed anyone yet.
"These are Erin’s Troubles. (sic)"
‘Erin’s World’ is set to be published in hardback on November 12.
