Demi Lovato restarted her life the day she got sober.
The ‘Cool for the Summer’ hitmaker is celebrating five years of sobriety and feels her life only really started when she finished her stint in rehab and battled her demons.
She said: "It means so much to me because I feel like the day that I got sober was the day that I actually started living and so I like to call myself five years old.
"I’ve decided to be open about my story and share everything that I’ve been through because it helps others. And I’ve had several people come up to me and say, ‘Hey, my dad got sober because you did,’ or ‘I got sober because you did.’ And it just is so meaningful and impactful to me that I wouldn’t change it for the world."
And the 24-year-old singer is incredibly happy with her new boyfriend, MMA fighter Guilherme Vasconcelos.
Speaking during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, she said: "Isn’t he cute? He’s so cute. I’m very happy … Life is really good."
Demi is naturally "so proud of" herself for staying sober for five years.
Celebrating the milestone with a post on Instagram, she wrote recently: "So grateful. It’s been quite the journey. So many ups and downs. So many times I wanted to relapse but sat on my hands and begged God to relieve the obsession.
"I’m so proud of myself but I couldn’t have done it without my higher power (God), my family, friends, and everyone else who supported me. Feeling humbled and joyful today. Thank you guys for sticking by my side and believing in me (sic)"
And the brunette beauty says it "feels amazing" to be celebrating the "journey".
She added: "It feels amazing. All I’ve been doing is focusing on bettering myself. It’s been quite the journey, but it’s well worth it. Surrendering is the most important thing whenever you’re trying to battle your demons. You have to admit that you have a problem first, and then you can overcome them.
"People have reached out and I’ve been able to help. Some people it helps, some people – that’s their own journey. But, if anyone ever needs anything, I’m always around."
