David Bowie’s son is happy he got to say goodbye to his father.
The 69-year-old singer passed away in January following a secret battle with cancer and while his family are still coming to terms with his death, Duncan Jones is relieved that he had time to tell his father how much he meant to him.
Speaking to Chris Hardwick on The Nerdist podcast, he said, "I’m OK, I’m good. I was very fortunate, we got a chance to say our goodbyes. It’s a weird one for me, I don’t really know how to talk about it or what to say about it – other than the fact that we got a chance to say our goodbyes.
"Weird things make me miss him, but it’s still early days. I’m sure I always will, but it’s tricky. He was a big gravitational pull in my life as far as who I saw myself as. How I separated myself from the world and how I saw myself."
However, Duncan is sad that David will not get to meet his grandchild, when the director’s wife Rodene Ronquillo – who he married in 2012 – gives birth next month.
He said: "It’s bittersweet because right now my wife is very pregnant and she’s due in June."
Duncan revealed Rodene’s pregnancy in February by tweeting a picture of a pregnant cartoon character with an umbilical cord sticking out of its stomach and wrote: "1 month since dad died today. Made this card for him at Christmas. Due in June. Circle of life. Love you, granddad (sic)."
Duncan is David’s eldest child and his mother is the musician’s former wife Angie Bowie.
Duncan and Angie have been estranged for over 30 years, ever since her divorce from David in 1980.
David also has daughter Alexandria ‘Lexi’ Zahra Jones, 15, with his second wife Iman.
