David and Victoria Beckham are among the celebrities who have paid tribute to the “incredible” Prince Philip following the news of his passing.
The 99-year-old royal – who was the husband of Queen Elizabeth II – passed away peacefully on Friday (09.04.21), and several celebrities and public figures have taken to social media to remember his lasting legacy, including retired football star David Beckham and his singer-turned-fashion designer wife Victoria.
On Instagram, David wrote: “My thoughts and sympathies go to Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Family as we join them to mourn the loss of Prince Philip. A public figure to the world but first a loving husband, father and grandfather. Today is a day to remember his life and incredible service to Britain and around the world. Rest In Peace Your Highness. (sic)”
Whilst Victoria added in her own post: “Saddened to hear about the passing of Prince Philip today. My heart goes out to the Royal family during this difficult time.”
Catherine Zeta-Jones was also among those who honoured the Duke of Edinburgh with a tribute post.
She wrote: “R.I.P. Your Royal Highness Prince Philip, thank you for your unwavering commitment to our Queen and Country (sic)”
And Boy George tweeted: “Very sad news about Prince Philip. He was a character. Like a very naughty grandfather. RIP. God Bless The Queen! (sic)”
World leaders including UK prime minister Boris Johnson and US president Joe Biden made statements about Philip’s passing earlier on Friday, and there was also a touching tribute on social media from former president Barack Obama.
He wrote: “Through his extraordinary example, His Royal Highness Prince Philip proved that true partnership has room for both ambition and selflessness — all in service of something greater. Our thoughts are with Her Majesty the Queen, the Royal Family, and the British people.”
