Danniella Westbrook is in talks about returning to ‘EastEnders’.
The 46-year-old actress has appeared as Sam Mitchell on and off from 1990 to 2016, and the star thinks it would make sense for her to reprise her role because there should be another strong female character to go up against Sharon Mitchell (Letitia Dean), who Sam "hates".
She said: "I think I will go back. Someone is talking to me at the minute about a return.
"It’s my 30-year anniversary since the day I joined the show. I’m a different person today, a very different person.
"I think the show is missing people to play a matriarch. When I joined there was Pauline, Pat, Peggy – all them older characters.
"Sharon has only got so many people to play against now. You’ve got Sharon and Kathy and her and Sam have a lot of history. Sam hates Sharon."
Another person tying Sam down to Albert Square is her son Ricky, who she shares with Jack Branning (Scott Maslen).
And Danniella admitted even a three-month stint back in Walford would be welcomed.
She told the Daily Star newspaper: "I want to go back to ‘EastEnders’ even if it’s just for three months just to round something off for me."
In May, Danniella admitted she was keen to return to the soap, and suggested Sam could go behind Phil’s back and buy the Queen Vic.
She said: "I would like to go back to ‘EastEnders’. I’d like to go back and take the Queen Vic over, I’d love to.
"I think Sam should buy it behind Phil’s back. Her and Sharon don’t get on anyway.
"She can give Sharon some hell, sleep with a few people, that’s what she always does."
But Sharon ended up going behind Phil’s back with pal Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) to buy the Vic.
