Daniel Brocklebank signs new Coronation Street contract

Daniel Brocklebank has signed a new ‘Coronation Street’ contract.

The 40-year-old actor has portrayed vicar Billy Mayhew on the cobbles since 2014, and the character looks set to remain in Weatherfield for another year after the star’s latest deal.

He is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper as saying: "I have just signed up for my seventh year on ‘Corrie’. It’s fantastic.

"It’s nice to get back to some normality."

Daniel is said to be staying on the cobbles after being promised some "exciting" and "juicy" storylines.

The star recently admitted he is "excited" by Corrie’s Todd Grimshaw’s return to Weatherfield, after Gareth Pierce signed up to play the character.

When recently asked about Todd’s comeback, Daniel said: "I’m so excited! Todd was absolutely the love of Billy’s life, and it feels very unfinished from his point of view.

"Billy doesn’t know why Todd upped and left him in the first place, so I reckon that he’ll have a lot of questions for him."

Gareth has replaced Bruno Langley in the role of Todd, and Daniel thinks he’s the perfect fit for the part.

He added: "I screen-tested with the actors who were auditioning to play Todd, and they were all great, although there was something special about Gareth.

"When we read together, the dialogue was flying off the page – there was something very Todd about his performance! When the bosses told me that Gareth had got the job, I was absolutely thrilled, and I can’t wait to start filming with him."
