Dancing on Ice ‘might not have a studio audience’

‘Dancing on Ice’ might not have a studio audience when it returns next year.

The ITV show is expected to return to the air in 2021, but Ashley Banjo has revealed that the programme could make its comeback without a crowd due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ashley – who is a judge on the show – told the Daily Star newspaper: "Discussions about ‘Dancing on Ice’ have already started and they are talking about not having an audience right now."

The programme previously broke ground when it featured a same-sex couple for the first time.

And Baga Chipz, the star of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race UK’, is rumoured to be in the running to appear among next year’s line-up.

Responding to the speculation, Ashley said: "The show is good for having ‘firsts’ and we’ve never had a drag queen … well, not any that we know!"

Meanwhile, ‘Strictly Come Dancing’s Neil Jones recently insisted he doesn’t have any qualms about isolating in a hotel before the new series.

BBC bosses are hosting the professional stars in a hotel prior to training for the Latin and ballroom dance competition due to the pandemic, and Neil, 38, says the entire team would love to be put up in a hotel for every series.

Asked if it was a hard decision to isolate for weeks away from family and friends, Neil said: "For a lot of us, it’s fine.

"Where we used to compete, a lot of the times we’d do training camps and we’d be in hotels with all the dancers. It would be just the dancers together.

"So actually, it’s kind of exciting. It’s something that we would actually like to do every year. It would be great."
