Dan Osborne’s father feared his son wanted a "physical fight" with him following a family row.
Jim Osborne had been due to be the former ‘Only Way is Essex’ star’s best man at his recent wedding to Jacqueline Jossa, but didn’t attend after the pair fell out when he couldn’t make Dan’s stag party in Las Vegas.
Jim – who split from Dan’s mum Toni in 2001 and has a three-year-old son with his new wife Becky – told his son he couldn’t go to the US because of his little boy.
He said: "I thought Dan would understand, being a dad himself.
"I said, ‘My son needs me — he’s a little boy and is not going to understand.’
He said that he was my son too, but I explained he was a grown-up and that they might be up to things on the stag do they would not want me to see."
After Jim broke the news, Dan replied: "Are you going to bother coming to the wedding?"
Jim said: "I replied saying, ‘If this is my invite, then no’. I thought it was obvious they didn’t want me there and I wasn’t invited.
"A friend sent me details of his wedding speech, which didn’t mention me.
"Someone at work even asked me if I was in my boy’s life.
"I feel so hurt and betrayed, it is so upsetting. I could never have thought this could happen to me."
Dan then sent a string of messages to Becky, describing his dad as a "complete plonker", and insisting he didn’t want to "sort it out".
He wrote: "I don’t care about sorting it out any more, it’s boring now. I just want to hear the truth.
"The only time I’d hear any truth from him is talking face-to-face ’cause he thinks he’s hard through text and it’s laughable."
Another message said: "I’ll leave him alone to have his new little life just the three of you if you want."
Jim was "pretty shocked" and devastated when Becky eventually showed him the messages from Dan – who has son Teddy, three, with ex-girlfriend Megan Tomlin, and daughter Ella, two, with Jacqueline – because he felt he wanted some sort of confrontation.
He told the Sun on Sunday newspaper: "When I read them I was pretty shocked, it sounded like he was on steroids or something.
"He said I should concentrate on my little family. That is heart-breaking, as he’s my family too."
The bus driver thinks fame has "changed" his 26-year-old son and made him "distant" from his family.
He said: "Fame has definitely changed Dan. It has got worse since he has been with Jacqueline.
"I don’t want to blame her but he has become more distant with people who love him.
"It is very upsetting, especially as I have always been there for him. And I am not sure it will ever get better."
