Dame Helen Mirren and Damian Lewis recording album for Queen Elizabeth II’s 95th birthday

Dame Helen Mirren and Damian Lewis are working on an album which will be released to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s 95th birthday.

The two acting superstars have joined forces with composer Debbie Wiseman and Decca Records to release a collection of songs under the title ‘The Music of Kings & Queens’, which will hit shelves in time for the Queen’s birthday on April 21.

An industry insider told The Sun newspaper’s Bizarre column: “Helen and Damian are quite good pals and have a mutual love and respect for the Queen.

“They felt it was a very significant birthday and achievement for her to reach 95, so they wanted to do it in a special way. It’s come at a good time and they are hoping it will bring a smile to her face.”

This isn’t the first time both Helen and Damian have celebrated the monarch’s birthday, as they both took part in her 90th birthday bash at Windsor Castle in 2016.

Helen is a known supporter of the Queen, and even won an Oscar for her performance as the monarch in 2006 film ‘The Queen’, three years after Prince Charles made her a Dame during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

Meanwhile, the Queen’s birthday celebrations will kick off just over a month after her grandson Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, accused an unnamed member of the royal family of asking what the colour of their then-unborn son Archie’s skin would be.

It was later confirmed the family member was not the Queen or her husband, Prince Philip, and following their claims, the monarch also released a statement in which she said the “issues raised” are “concerning” and will be “addressed by the family privately”.

The statement from Buckingham Palace read: “The whole family is saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan.

“The issues raised, particularly that of race, are concerning. Whilst some recollections may vary, they are taken very seriously and will be addressed by the family privately.

“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved family members.”
