Dale Winton’s pal says host told him: ‘I’ve had enough’

A friend of Dale Winton’s claims he used to tell him he’d "had enough".
Radio DJ Steve Allen feels "quite happy" for the late ‘Supermarket Sweep’ presenter – who passed away on Wednesday (18.04.18) aged 62 – because he claims the TV legend had not been "in a good place" for a while, but would be enjoying the outpouring of love for him following his passing.
Speaking on his LBC radio show, he said: "He didn’t like the ageing process. He used to say to me ‘I’ve had enough’ and I used to say ‘Oh, you’ve got loads of things’.
"I’m actually quite happy for him. I know that sounds quite bizarre and I should explain. I don’t think he’d been in a good place for a long, long time. He would be so thrilled at the coverage.
"I feel happy for him that he’s in a place now where he’s probably going to be eternally young. He won’t age any more."
Steve also claimed Dale was getting "deeper and deeper into debt" because he "loved" splashing cash.
He added: "He was just getting deeper and deeper into debt because unfortunately the one thing Dale loved doing was spending money.
"He liked to be seen spending money, he liked going out spending money. He didn’t want people thinking he didn’t have any money."
Dale – who took a four-year break from TV due to health issues and his battle with depression, before returning to screens in February for his travelogue series ‘Dale Winton’s Florida Fly Drive’ – is said to have sold his £2.6 million townhouse just last month.
On Thursday (19.04.18), police described the ‘Hole in the Wall’ star’s passing as "not suspicious".
A Scotland Yard spokesperson said: "Although not suspicious, an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death will be carried out. A post-mortem has also been ordered by Scotland Yard to determine cause of death."
Following his passing, several stars have paid tribute to the TV presenter, including Danny Baker, who said Dale was a "thousand more times entertaining" in private than on TV, and claimed the star was "worried" about his TV career ending.
The radio DJ said: "He was also shocked to be on television, and he was also worried about when it would end."
