Tisha Merry was a "paranoid wreck" because of her chronic acne.
The former ‘Coronation Street’ actress – who played waitress Steph Britton from 2013 to 2017 before making a brief return the following year – has dismissed the idea she has "perfect skin", and opened up about suffering "hormonal break outs" which knocked her self-confidence.
Speaking on her YouTube channel, Tisha – who is dating Alan Halsall – said: "I would get home from work, wipe my make up off and just cry.
"I was in a bad place basically. It probably wasn’t just the spots, but they contributed to what else was going on.
"It was really, really hard to deal with and it affected my confidence, and it affected where I went and became paranoid with how I looked and what other people could see in me and I became paranoid that the audience, the people that watched ‘Corrie’, would notice my skin."
The 26-year-old star admitted her skin has caused her "the most stress", which in turned affected her skin.
She added: "In either my teens or my early 20s, I went through bouts of acne, I had hormonal break outs, and all of this was whilst being on TV – HD – it was stressful.
"And then more stress creates more acne. So my skin is not perfect is what I’m trying to say."
Tisha ended up going on a course of medication – which she still stakes at a low dosage – which cleared up the spots.
She urged anyone suffering with acne to see a dermatologist as soon as possible, after she spent too long getting "fobbed off" by doctors.
She said: "Hands down it was one of the lowest points of my time at ‘Corrie’ and my time being young. Now I have a strict regime that I stick to.
"I look after my skin the best I can and drink lots of water. But my skin isn’t perfect, don’t think it is. It’s taken a long time to get to this."
