‘Coronation Street’ newcomer Stirling Gallacher hopes her character doesn’t clash with Sally Webster – because she wants to do more scenes with Sally Dynevor.
The former ‘Doctors’ actress has joined the ITV soap as Paula Cunliffe, a love interest for Brooke Vincent’s alter-ego Sophie Webster, and while she admits her character may come in contact with Sophie’s mum Sally’s wrath at some point, she is confident the pair will not fall out.
She said: "If and when Sally finds out about the relationship they’re might be a bit of a frisson there but I’d imagine Paula would be able to work it so that they remained friends because I’d love it if Sally and Paula would hang out a bit more!"
Stirling was drawn to the part because she loved the idea of an older and younger woman getting together on a soap.
She said: "I really liked the idea that it was a realistic storyline about a relationship. I found the age difference a fascinating angle because it sounds more like a real relationship rather than an idea of what a lesbian relationship might look like from an outside context."
And she has found work to be "so much easier" on ‘Corrie’ thanks to Sally and Brooke helping her to settle in.
She added: "They could not have been more welcoming or tried to make my life any easier. They’ve been fab and we’ve had a really good laugh. I’ve felt very easy very quickly in their company which makes getting on with the work so much easier."
