‘Coronation Street’ star Katie McGlynn celebrated her birthday with some of her co-stars.
The actress – who is bowing out of the ITV soap after 13 years in the role of Sinead Tinker – was joined by her on-screen husband Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard), Alexandra Mardell, who plays Emma Brooker, and Daniel Brocklebank ( Billy Mayhew) as she partied in a swanky pad with her pals over the weekend.
Katie thanked PR Lee Bennett for setting up the surprise.
She wrote on Instagram alongside a series of snaps from the celebration: "Huge thank you to my main gal @_leebennett for organising a surprise bday, he pulled out all the stops to make me feel like a lil prin and a special thank you to @tripadvisor for arranging this beaut pad last minute #birthdayweekend #tripadvisorrentals #anyonewouldthinkitsamilestone (sic)"
Meanwhile, it was recently claimed that Sinead is set to lose her cancer battle.
Katie’s character has been battling cervical cancer for months, and the horrific disease is expected to take her life in emotional scenes as the star departs the show.
An insider said: "From her two rocky relationships to the mini-bus crash, she’s been in some of Corrie’s most captivating storylines.
"And producers will be sad to see Katie leave the soap, but she will make an unforgettable departure which is set to leave viewers in tears."
Things appeared to be looking up for Sinead – who initially snubbed treatment to have her and husband Daniel’s son Bertie – after she eventually underwent some aggressive chemotherapy, but it doesn’t look likely to keep the cancer at bay.
In May, it was reported that Katie would be leaving the soap, but ‘Corrie’ said at the time that the former ‘Waterloo Road’ star was "fully committed" to playing out the rest of her character’s cervical cancer storyline, and said the plot "still has a long way to go".
A spokesperson said: "Katie is fully committed to playing out the extremely important storyline she is currently portraying on screen.
"This story still has a long way to go. Any speculation threatens to undermine the storyline for viewers."
Katie admitted in January that her ‘Coronation Street’ future was "up in the air".
She said at the time: "I’m contracted well into this year but it is up in the air. Although I have to wait and see what happens, I quite like not knowing.
"With the nature of my storyline, I guess it’s 50/50. Either way I’d be happy, though."
