Coronation Street’s Pat Phelan will be presumed dead later this year after he plummets off a clifftop.
The vicious villain – played by Connor McIntyre – will finally get his comeuppance in the near future after his wife Eileen (Sue Cleaver) discovers his murderous crimes when they go on a cottage break to the coast and the bodies of some of his victims are found on his building site on the cobbles.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "The whole show has been building up to this point. Phelan’s murderous ways will finally be revealed while he and Eileen are on a mini-break. But while they’re there the police find the bodies at his building site and Liz tells Eileen about everything."
But the cab call worker may end up with blood on her own hands after she and Phelan get into a scuffle over the shocking revelation and she pushes him and he plunges into the sea below.
The insider explained: "When they start to clash while out walking Phelan tries to go for her and she sidesteps him and throws him into the sea.
"It will stun and delight viewers. He’s finally getting his comeuppance."
And the drama for Eileen doesn’t end there as her neighbours and the police begin to question whether she knew about her husband’s crimes, which saw him kill four people, all along.
Meanwhile, Sue, 54, recently admitted she’s really struggling with the gripping plot twists she’s having to shoot for the programme at the moment because they’re becoming so "complicated", but she’s hoping bosses will give her some breathing space this year so she can go travelling.
Sue – who has appeared on the show for 24 years – explained: "It’s all getting very dark. It’s just too complicated at the moment. I’m so knackered. I’d love a break. I want to travel to China and Japan."
