Coronation Street’s dog Ozzy is to be the next cast member killed off.
The poor pooch, who has been Maria Connor’s (Samie Ghadie) best friend since 2007, will meet his mutt maker in the next few weeks in a move by show bosses which is likely to leave fans heartbroken.
A Corrie insider told The Sun newspaper: "It’s utterly devastating for Maria – and viewers.
"Ozzy has been by her side since 2007 when her then-husband Liam gave him to her as a present.
"When Liam was killed in a hit-and-run it was Ozzy who was her main source of comfort.
"His absence couldn’t come at a worse time with heartache already on the horizon now she’s tangled up in a love triangle with Aidan Connor (Shayne Ward) and his girlfriend Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley)."
Samia recently teased a "well-loved member of the cast" is to die in a heart-breaking episode which she admitted were among her "saddest scenes" to shoot during her time on the cobbles.
She wrote: "It’s been great fun filming, but this week I’ve been recording some of THE saddest scenes I’ve ever done in my 17 years at ‘Corrie’.
"When I first read the scripts I was in tears so getting to film them has just sent me off. You may need your tissues when they air. And we say a sad goodbye to a well loved member of the cast."
Ozzy will not be the first ‘Corrie’ canine killed off though as in 2011 Chesney Brown’s (Sam Aston) Great Dane dog Schmeichel – named after former Manchester United and Aston Villa goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel – died in his arms in tear-jerking scenes.
