‘Coronation Street’s David Platt is to seek "revenge" for his wife Kylie’s sudden death over the next coming months.
The handsome family man – portrayed by Jack P. Shepherd – will see his world crumble before his eyes later this week when his beautiful spouse (Paula Lane) tragically dies just as they were planning to start a new life together in Barbados.
The traumatic experience strikes a chord with the damaged hairdresser and he reverts back to his bad boy ways as he attempts to blame someone for his wife’s death.
Jack explained to Inside Soap magazine: "We know David doesn’t respond well under pressure sometimes and, certainly in a situation like this, he will go on the warpath. I’m looking forward to watching how that all plays out in the coming months as this story is due to continue well into the autumn … The old David has always been there – the audience know it and I know it.
"That side of him is triggered by a strong reaction, and Kylie’s death is big enough for an extreme response. If anything, his quest for revenge gives David something to focus on. Everything was going great in his life, and now he needs to blame someone for taking Kylie away from him."
The 28-year-old actor has admitted Kylie’s death has hit him hard as he has not only lost his on-screen wife but he has also been forced to say goodbye to his best friend.
He said: "I didn’t think I would miss her as much as I do. I’m always really blasé about people leaving but Paula is a great friend and a big character within the Platt family."
Meanwhile, although he’s set to go off the rails in the coming weeks, Jack has hinted that his alter-ego will settle down at some point and he’ll return to his parental ways.
He added: "In the long term, it will be interesting to see what sort of person David becomes. He is definitely a great father, so I do hope that will be his focus for a while."
