‘Coronation Street’s Claire King is scared she’ll lose her job.
The 53-year-old actress – who is known for playing flirty shop worker Erica Holroyd – only joined the long-running soap 18 months ago but she thinks her time may already be up as she’s heard through the grapevine that new producer Kate Oates is planning to kill off a number of the key characters when she takes over the production reins later this week.
She said: "I don’t know if I will be safe [when Kate takes over]. They always like to put their own stamp on things.
"I have been around the block a few times so I know how it works. It will be fine if she feels the character does not work. We are all self-employed and you adapt and change when things happen."
But, although she’s terrified she’ll be given the chop, Claire believes Kate will do wonders for ‘Coronation Street’ after seeing the spectacular work she’s done on ‘Emmerdale’ – including a fiery helicopter crash – over the past five years.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper, she explained: "We have all seen what she has done with ‘Emmerdale’. We all think she will be a great asset for ‘Corrie’."
