Colin Farrell is in talks to star in a remake of ‘The Beguiled’.
According to Variety, the 40-year-old actor is in negotiations to appear as the main character, injured US soldier Corporal John ‘McBee’ McBurney who is imprisoned in a Confederate girls’ boarding school during the American Civil War, who was played by Clint Eastwood in the 1971 original drama movie.
Should Farrell join the cast he will team up with Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst and Elle Fanning on the Sofia Coppola motion picture.
Kidman is to play the headmistress with Dunst as a sexually repressed teacher and Fanning as a student at the school.
Coppola is writing and directing the film, and Youree Henley will produce the movie.
The original movie was based on a novel by Thomas Cullinan and starred Geraldine Page as Martha Farnsworth, Elizabeth Hartman as Edwina Dabney, Jo Ann Harris as Carol and Darleen Carr as Doris.
A production start date on the film has yet to be announced but shooting is expected to begin next year when a male lead has been found.
Farrell will next star in ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’, which is out in November, and Kidman, 48, will be seen in ‘Genius’, a biopic about literary editor Max Perkins.
Dunst, 33, appears alongside Adam Driver in sci-fi drama ‘Midnight Special’, and following her turn in ‘Trumbo’ 17-year-old Fanning will be seen turning her talents to horror in ‘The Neon Demon’.
