Cold Feet’s Fay Ripley thought shows revival was a ‘joke’

Fay Ripley thought it was a "practical joke" when she was asked to rejoin the cast of ‘Cold Feet’ for a the new revived series earlier this year.
The 50-year-old actress – who shot to fame as Jenny Gifford in the popular British comedy – thought someone was winding her up when talk of another installment began floating around a few months ago following the show’s 13-year hiatus.
Speaking on Saturday night’s (22.10.16) episode of ITV’s ‘The Jonathan Ross Show’, she said: "I just thought it was a practical joke to be honest."
John Thompson – who plays Pete Gifford – said there had been plans to revive the show for many years and when it finally came to it, he was reluctant to believe it.
He said: "It was rumoured for years but there were so many false alarms when it came around this time I went, ‘Yeah whatever, I don’t believe it.’
"Then we saw something tangible and we saw their was an actual script for episode one of this season."
And lead star James Nesbitt, 51, says he was nervous to reprise his much-loved alter-ego Adam Williams for the new series because he didn’t want to let loyal fans down, but was reassured as soon as he saw the script.
He explained: "I think there was certainly trepidation. It’s only a TV show at the end of the day but we were very aware when we were doing it that it meant something to people and that those characters, people could relate to… So to bring that back and the notion of maybe not only letting our characters down but also letting the audience that had grown with those characters was a worry … but you know once we saw the script… certainly when we read it and we got back together… very quickly I think we felt that we had been away for only a couple of months. It felt really great so I think as a result of that we were then quite protective of it and fearful but also hopeful."
‘The hit show made a triumphant return to screens in September and, following its success, ITV have decided to bring it back next year for another installment.
‘Cold Feet’ first hit television screens in 1997 and came to an end in 2003.
