Claire Sweeney has landed a temporarily role in ‘Benidorm’.
The former ‘Brookside’ actress – who was known for playing Lindsey Corkhill in the teen soap – has joined the ITV comedy as a no-non-sense airport ground worker, who clashes with the Dawson family when they try to get back on a flight to the UK.
And, although she’s excited about the role, the 46-year-old star should have no issues settling in as she’ll get to work with her former co-star Kate Fitzgerald, who portrayed Doreen Corkhill in ‘Brookside’, again as she plays man-eating granny Loretta Dawson.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "It’s pure coincidence they’ve ended up being on screen together but ‘Brookie’ fans will love it."
The cast are currently in Spain filming series 10 of the comedy and it’s believed the next instalment will be better than ever as bosses have secured some exciting cameos – including Bobby Ball, who is one half of the comedy duo Cannon and Ball.
The former ‘I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!’ contestant had hoped to keep his appearance a secret until the show airs in 2018, but he was spotted filming in the Spanish resort by holidaymakers.
His character is said to be linked to the Dawson family.
The new series of the show will also see a guest appearance from former Spandau Ballet singer Tony Hadley, and programme bosses are keen to sign more big names up to mark a decade on screen.
A source said recently: "There are more names to come. We’re going all out to make this a series to remember."
However, recent rumours have suggested that the forthcoming series may be the last as viewer figures have started to plummet and some of the cast members have left.
