Claire King wants to be Doctor Who companion

Claire King wants to be the new companion in ‘Doctor Who’.
The 54-year-old actress has worked on numerous soaps over the years but has admitted she’d love nothing more than to be cast as the time-travelling alien’s sidekick – which will be played by Bradley Walsh when the new series starts in 2018 – and wouldn’t even hesitate if she was approached.
She exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "Oh definitely, I would like to do that."
And the former ‘Coronation Street’ star has even joked that she’d be great at playing the Time Lord but she wants to give Jodie Whittaker – who will take over from Peter Capaldi in tomorrow night’s (25.12.17) festive episode – a go.
She quipped: "No I’ll give her a bit of a go. Something like that would be great because I like doing my little films as well – it just keeps you fresh as there’s a beginning, middle and end. It’s not ongoing so I find that more interesting and the diversity of it, so drama, film, whatever really."
Jodie found out she had secured the role of the Doctor in March after fighting off stiff competition and knew instantly that she only had a matter of hours before her life was about to change forever.
She said at the time: "The morning of the reveal. I was just walking about my street, thinking, ‘Oh, this is so weird. Right now, I’m completely anonymous. I’ve got four hours’ time.’ "
And it’s hardly surprising that Jodie, 35, is nervous ahead of her debut as she’s made history by becoming the first ever female to play the Time Lord.
She said: "I’m playing an alien and gender is not a part of that. A moment like this, of being the first woman cast as something, it makes you really think about your sex, whereas actually what you want to do is play a part where your gender is irrelevant.
"I’m a woman, I don’t need to play that. And for me, this was the most freeing experience because there’s no right or wrong way to do it. The rules went out the window."
