Christopher Biggins: I won’t watch Blind Date

Christopher Biggins has vowed never to watch the rebooted ‘Blind Date’.
The 68-year-old actor was a close friend of the late Cilla Black, who hosted the iconic show from 1985 until 2003, and Christopher is vehemently opposed to the programme’s return later this year.
Christopher, who co-presented ‘Surprise Surprise’ with Cilla back in 1984, told The Sun newspaper: "Let’s bring back old-established things which were great because Cilla Black made them great.’ It’s very depressing.
"I don’t think they should do it. I won’t be watching it."
The likes of Vicky Pattison, Olly Murs, Georgia May Foote and Helen Flanagan are all reported to be in the frame to present the dating programme, which will be given a reboot before the end of 2017.
Christopher’s comments come shortly after an insider revealed the revamped show would feature a "modern" twist.
A source explained earlier this week: ""Blind Date’ is the original dating show and it’s huge news to bring it back.
"It’s a classic format that will be rebooted to make it young, sexy and modern. Expect sparks to fly. In an age of Tinder, you have got to earn the right to love on this show."
TV bosses at Channel 5 are eager to keep some of the "traditional" elements of the previous run, but are also determined to appeal to a "new generation of viewers".
The programme is expected to run on Friday nights – rather than its traditional Saturday night slot – and will initially consist of six to eight episodes per series.
‘Blind Date’ had seemingly disappeared from TV screens forever in 2003, when Cilla – who passed away two years ago – announced she was quitting during a live episode.
