Christina Aguilera defends Kanye West

Christina Aguilera says Kanye West is just "misunderstood", following his recent string of controversial comments.
The 40-year-old rapper has made headlines recently after he voiced his support for divisive US president Donald Trump, and then later seemed to claim the 400 years of black slavery was a "choice" made by those enslaved.
And whilst many in the celebrity world have condemned the ‘Stronger’ hitmaker for his words, Christina Aguilera has claimed he’s a "good guy" whose "mind works in mysterious ways".
Speaking to W magazine, the 37-year-old singer said: "Kanye, you know, he says things. His mind works in mysterious ways. I’ll just say that. I’ve always been a fan of his music … If anything, he gives with his gut. You can feel it in his beats. It’s genuine. It feels like his truth, even if it’s not going to go over well. But he really spoke to me. Even in that conversation we had, he would go on about other subjects and stuff like that. But then he would kind of remind me of myself. Like, oh, okay. He just has a different way of thinking and he’ll trail off in his own thoughts. You get the sense, though, that there’s a good guy there. Sometimes we’re all just a little misunderstood."
The ‘Beautiful’ singer’s support isn’t the only positivity Kanye has received since he began making his controversial statements last month, as fellow musician John Mayer also leapt to the rapper’s defence.
John said: "He’s the most creative person I’ve ever met in my life. The veil that hangs between what you know and what you don’t in terms of creating, for him, is so freaking thin that I understand his excitement artistically. He can pull anything into existence that he wants. He is maybe the greatest summoner of creative energy. I’ve seen him do it; it’s a magic trick.
"That is intoxicating and sometimes toxic. Because how can you be sure what is someone’s true assessment of a boundary line and what is just another imaginary imposed boundary line? You’re just not sure where the walls are. When you’re that powerful at building the road as you go, it’s gotta be very hard to be able to trust what’s a real road block and what’s an imaginary road block. Because your whole life .. as an artist … is breaking through imaginary road blocks."
Kanye’s comments caused several famous faces to unfollow him on social media, including Rihanna, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar, Harry Styles, and Katy Perry.
