Chris Evans: ‘Pay BBC presenters less’

Chris Evans has admitted that he gets paid too much.
After it emerged that the BBC will be forced to reveal the salaries of all employees earning over £450,000, believed to include stars including Chris, Gary Lineker and Graham Norton, the ‘Top Gear’ star insisted he wouldn’t have a problem with his wages being cut.
He told BBC News: "It’s not exactly breaking news that people who do what I do for a living, compared to people in the real world, get paid too much money.
"We’ve got jobs that people would kill for, we get to do things that people would pay to do if they could afford it. Sometimes those things aren’t even available to buy. Most of us work part-time anyway, so just pay us less. That’s what I would do. It’s not rocket science."
The Government’s White Paper is set to force the BBC to reveal the names of presenters earning more than £450,000 a year, the amount earned by director general Tony Hall, as part of an overhaul of the corporation.
Culture Secretary John Whittingdale said he wanted "to see as much transparency as possible" on how the BBC spends licence fee payers’ money.
However, the BBC’s independence will be guaranteed.
A Government source told the Daily Mirror: "The BBC is a world-class broadcaster and one of our country’s greatest institutions. Our plans will mean that the BBC will keep making the great programmes we love and will continue to thrive in the future."
