Chris Bisson: Emmerdale explosion was like Mission: Impossible

Chris Bisson says shooting the ‘Emmerdale’ factory explosion was like being on the set of ‘Mission: Impossible’.
The 44-year-old actor’s alter ego Jai Sharma saw his family business literally go up in flames this week, and he admitted there was an extra level of excitement for the cast and crew filming such dramatic scenes as he compared it to Tom Cruise’s blockbuster movie franchise.
Appearing on ITV’s ‘Loose Women’ on Thursday (08.08.19), he said: "Yeah, when the story’s big it’s more interesting, isn’t it? When we’re doing big stunts and explosions, it’s great. "We’re filming the thing where the factory explodes and they’ve got all these stunt men on wires making it look like ‘Mission: Impossible’. It’s really exciting, and interesting to watch!"
Jai is in the middle of the storyline, which is set to continue after Frank Clayton (Michael Praed) died in the blaze.
Explaining how things will impact the near future for his character, Chris added: "He’s right in the middle of it. It’s his factory. His dad’s made a mess of it and he’s trying now to pick up the pieces.
"The factory workers are all out of work so they’re on his case, and obviously Frank’s died."
Chris first appeared on the ITV soap a decade ago – after spending three years as Vikram Desai on ‘Coronation Street’ until 2002 – and he previously admitted he was surprised the factory lasted 10 years without getting destroyed.
He recently said: "It’s the end of an era and it also marks me being on ‘Emmerdale’ for 10 years. That’s when the factory was first introduced, on my birthday 10 years ago.
"It’s been a 10-year cycle. I’m surprised it hasn’t been blown up sooner or burnt down sooner, it’s lasted quite well in Soap World."
