Chizzy Akudolu has been confirmed for this year’s ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The ‘Holby City’ star – who is known for portraying surgeon Mo Effanga in the medical drama – has become the 12th contestant to join the line up for the forthcoming series of the ballroom and latin show and she can’t wait to wear the sequinned frocks.
She said: "When I was 13, I made the finals of a disco dancing competition once but there was this amazing girl who exploded onto the stage with a gorgeous sequined costume, throwing glitter everywhere… I knew it was game over for me. That was then, this is now and this is my chance to have even more sequins!"
But, although she has some degree of dancing experience, the 43-year-old actress will have to fight off some stiff competition if she’s to lift the famous glitterball trophy.
The brunette beauty will go up against the likes of Charlotte Hawkins, Brian Conley, Susan Calman, Aston Merrygold, Simon Rimmer, Joe McFadden, Reverend Richard Coles, Gemma Atkinson, Ruth Langsford, Davood Ghadami and Mollie King, who have also been confirmed for the new series. More contestants will be announced today.
Although some stars are yet to be confirmed and announced, one thing’s for certain, there will be plenty of fireworks when the show returns this autumn as the judging panel and troupe of professionals have been given a huge shake up recently.
The forthcoming series will see legendary choreographer Shirley Ballas claim Len Goodman’s Head Judge seat following his shock departure at the end of last year and, although the fellow panelists – Darcey Bussell, Craig Revel Horwood and Bruno Tonioli – are excited to have her on board, they’re convinced she’ll stand her ground.
