Cheryl Baker would love to do ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
The Fizz singer was recently given the boot from ‘Dancing on Ice’ but that hasn’t put her off learning new routines as she has admitted she’d love nothing more than join the line-up for the forthcoming series of the ballroom and latin show later this year.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, the 63-year-old star said: "I would love to do ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. I’ve never had a dance lesson in my life. We’ve been taught choreography but it’s not like ballroom and latin. Yeah I love dancing, I really do love it. I’m a good dancer on my own but whether I’m a good dancer when I’m with someone else. People were asking if I took inspiration from Debbie McGee [who is 59] when I agreed to do ‘Dancing on Ice’ but I didn’t watch ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. And I was like ‘No, I didn’t take inspiration from anyone else. I’m just me.’ "
And, although she really struggled with ‘Dancing on Ice’, Cheryl didn’t realise how dangerous the show was until after she’d auditioned and been given a spot.
She explained: "I saw the challenge I suppose. When my agent said: ‘Do you want to audition for it?’ – because you have to audition for it – you actually have to pass the audition. You have to skate. But I skated with a trainer so I loved it because he was like Dan. He was the head coach. He had me in his arms and he was going: ‘OK, left right left right.’ With Dan I enjoyed it. I didn’t in the audition skate on my own."
The Fizz’s new album ‘The F-Z of Pop’ is out now.
