Charlie Hunnam: There was a ‘real distance’ between me and Robert Pattinson

Charlie Hunnam and Robert Pattinson didn’t hit it off when they first met.
The 36-year-old actor and the ‘Twilight’ star feature together on the recently released action movie ‘The Lost City of Z’, and Charlie has said there was a "real distance" between the pair off screen as they didn’t take the time to get to know each other.
Charlie said: "I had a couple of rehearsal sessions with Sienna [Miller], but I didn’t spend any time with Tom [Holland] or Robert.
"I wanted these relationships to evolve naturally on screen. Through the work, I don’t think I said more than ten words to Robert off camera. I didn’t know if he was just ‘in that zone’ or if he genuinely didn’t like me. There was a real distance between us."
Despite being concerned Robert, 30, wouldn’t like him, the ‘Sons of Anarchy’ actor admits the cold attitude helped create "the right dynamic on screen" between Rob’s Henry Costin and Charlie’s Percy Fawcett.
And now that filming has long since wrapped on the production, Charlie says things are looking up for their friendship.
He added to Screen Daily: "He’s reached out to me subsequently, making overtures for us to be friends now so I think it was about the work."
Meanwhile, Charlie recently admitted he was "filled with panic" when he headed onto the set for the movie, as he only had a few days to prepare after wrapping filming on ‘King Arthur: Legend of the Sword’, in which he plays the titular character.
He said: "King Arthur was incredibly demanding: I was in almost every scene and shooting long hours. By the time we finished shooting, I only had ten days before I started shooting this [‘The Lost City of Z’]. I was filled with panic. I used every second of that time to try and transform myself psychologically and physically because I was muscle bound and in action hero mode."
