Catherine Tyldesley wants Sheridan Smith’s variety in her own career

Catherine Tyldesley wants to emulate Sheridan Smith’s varied and successful career.
The former ‘Coronation Street’ actress would love to have the same range of roles across stage and screen, and she praised the talented performer for the different areas she has excelled in.
Speaking to the Irish News, she said: "I came into this business because I love variety and that’s what I wanted to explore. I look at someone like Sheridan Smith, who has done theatre, TV, film and singing, and that’s what I’d love."
As well as sitcoms like ‘Gavin & Stacey’ and ‘Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps’, Sheridan, 37, has also appeared in the likes of ‘Cilla’ and ‘Black Mirror’ on TV, while her West End credits include ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ and ‘Funny Girl’.
Her film roles include 2016’s ‘The Huntsman: Winter’s War’, and last year she released her second studio album ‘A Northern Soul’.
Catherine, 35, released her own record ‘Rise’ three years ago, and she has been filming with Jason Manford in new BBC One comedy ‘Scarborough’, having recently starred in Channel 5 crime drama ’15 Days’.
And despite her goals away from the cobbles, the soap star admitted she would still consider a return.
She added: "It was a hard decision to leave ‘Corrie’. It’s got such a special place in my heart and always will have, it’s like my second home, and if the time and the story line was right, I’d go back."
However, Catherine isn’t planning too far ahead, and she is grateful for the opportunities she has.
She explained: "I’ve always lived by the motto, ‘If you can see it, you can dream it, and if you believe it, you can achieve it.’
"I hung on that through all the years of dreaming of being an actor and singer. I just count my blessings and take each day as it comes nowadays."
