‘Casualty’ will air a double bill feature-length episode for its series finale this month.
The hit BBC medical drama will reach a dramatic conclusion on Saturday August 10 in a 90-minute episode which will see Amanda Mealing’s Connie Beauchamp forced to choose between her career and her addiction.
Connie’s recent storyline has seen the character alienate friends and colleagues after becoming addicted to diazepam while attempting to combat her increasing anxiety, and Amanda, 52, recently described her alter-ego’s actions as "broken and desperate".
She told Metro.co.uk: "Connie is broken, desperate and not herself.
"By the time we get to the double episode, things come to a head and we will see how affected Connie is by the whole thing.
"What we will see in that double episode is the fact that an addict’s addiction not only affects them but the wider group around them.
"The chaos that ensures because of her pursuit of her drug of choice – this is it. These are the consequences; there’s a huge fallout."
It was recently announced on Twitter that Amanda will be taking a break from her role as Connie.
And while she’s leaving the character behind for now, she will definitely return in the future.
A BBC spokesperson said at the time: "As is common with long-running cast members, Amanda is taking a well-deserved break from filming with Casualty and will return in the autumn."
