Carol Vorderman’s terminally ill mother is "refusing" to let her family be sad.
The star’s beloved mother Jean, 88, has been diagnosed with an incurable cancer but she is determined to live out her remaining days as positively as possible.
She told the Daily Mirror: "At my age I don’t want to undergo any further operations or chemotherapy treatment which can’t cure these new cancers anyway.
"Now my family and me will concentrate on being happy and celebrating the time we have together. I’m refusing to let them be sad."
Carol and her siblings are now caring for Jean, who has previously battled kidney, skin and ovarian cancer, in Bristol.
Carol, 56, said: "I love her beyond measure. We are laughing so much and she is having a lovely time. She refuses to let us be sad so we are taking our lead from her."
Carol took to Twitter on Mother’s Day (26.03.17) to share the sad news about Jean.
She wrote: "A precious Mother’s Day x This wk Mum & I found out she has terminal cancer. She’s 88, beautiful inside and out & I love her beyond measure x (sic)."
She later posted a sweet picture of her and her mother enjoying a special Mother’s Day lunch with other members of their family.
She captioned it: "Mum’s lunch with all her children, all her grandchildren and her gorgeous great grandchild Alex.Lots of laughing x (sic)."
Carol has been open about her mother’s previous battles with cancer, writing on Twitter in 2015: "Mum having 3rd cancer op today but this op is minor compared to the previous ones thankfully.
"Mum has had a 3lb ovarian tumour removed (miraculously it hadn’t spread).
"Then she had kidney cancer so half of her right kidney was removed, this time it’s a pretty big malignant melonoma, but Mum says "goodness me, this is nothing. I’ll be in and out in no time".
"Scans have shown this skin cancer hasn’t spread either so we consider ourselves lucky children today (sic)."
